After 20+ years as a US Army family, we are doing just that!

Hi, we are Sean and Kim Keneally, and we are the proud owners of Rusty Brows Bernese Breeders. 

​

It all started during a military assignment to Vicenza, Italy in the early 2000's.  We were living in a small northern town near the Dolomiti mountains and attended the annual autumn parade of bringing the cows down from the mountain pasture.  As these cows paraded down the mountain, each herd was led by a pack of beautiful black dogs with a white stripe between their eyes, white Swiss cross on their chest, and adorable little rusty brows. It was love at first sight, and we immediately began researching this dog breed.

We began to notice Bernese Mountain Dogs all over Europe and spoke with the owners each time we saw this dog breed. The sentiment was always the same: they are the most loving, fun, gentle, owner-pleasing dogs you'll ever know.  We had to know more!

As we researched over the years, we learned how the integrity of the breed has been compromised due to "back yard breeding," crossbreeding, and lack of ethical and healthy breeding practices.  If you do your research, you will find that the Bernese Mountain Dog has one of the shortest life-expectancies of all dog breeds.  However, if you continue your research you will find that it is mostly due to improper breeding practices.  We find this to be an absolute travesty, and intend to be a part of improving that statistic through our ethical and careful breeding criteria.

As our love for this breed began to grow, we knew we wanted to preserve the majestic beauty and health quality of this gorgeous breed for generations to come.

Fast forward to 2024, and here we are going confidently in the direction of our dream in establishing Rusty Brows Berners, living the life we've imagined with these beautiful dogs.  We now live in the small town of St. Maries, Idaho, a perfect spot for these majestic dogs to run free up and down the mountains in our area!

We are a family/veteran-owned and operated business with a love for dogs with a focus on producing healthy, well-tempered Bernese Mountain Dogs to become lifelong family companions. 

 

 Our goal is to raise happy and healthy Bernese Mountain Dogs that are well-socialized and great companions. We are committed to responsible breeding practices and ensuring our puppies are welcomed into responsible, loving homes.
